Monthly Toolbox eNews Update | #70 - April-May 2015 |
|
|
Dear Reader,
This Share Market Toolbox eNews Update email is going to all of our subscribing Share Market Toolbox
Members as normal, and to the non-Members who have expressed an
interest in receiving it. (Any non-members who want to access the detail
in the Members Area can easily join as a Toolbox Member - it's not expensive.)
In recent months I have been somewhat distracted with the preparations for the annual ATAA national conference that
we held on the Gold Coast in mid-May. Now that the conference is done, I
can focus more time on my Toolbox subscribers, and the Toolbox content,
and these monthly eNews updates.
A few months ago I started writing some material on the topic of Nimble Short Term Investing, and it literally exploded. I delivered a presentation on this to the Melbourne AIA group in February, and they were so impressed with the material that I have been invited to present at the annual AIA conference on the Gold Coast in August.
More
and more people are showing interest in this topic, and there is even
more material that I need to write. Because of the ATAA conference in
May, I couldn't do the April eNews Update, but I have made up for it in
May with some new eBook Articles, and revisions to existing ones. See more details in the "This Month's Focus" section below.
If you would like to see a history of the Toolbox changes, see the special content update blog, and you can select the option there to "Follow" that blog to get details about new updates as soon as they are made.
Any non-member who no
longer wants to receive this material on a monthly basis can simply
unsubscribe from ALL topics using the SafeUnsubscribe link at the bottom
- or just Update Your Profile to change your interests. BUT NOTE:
Toolbox Members and BullCharts mailing list members should not
unsubscribe, as it will remove you from all my mail lists and you will
no longer get any emails. Please remember, anything
mentioned here, and in the referred eBook Articles, is for general
education only, and is not advice of any sort.
Please read on...

About the Toolbox eNews Update emails...
Here's a short note
to the recently new Toolbox Members, and new readers of this monthly
email:- These share market Toolbox eNews emails
always go to Toolbox Members (a part of the Toolbox service), and to
the people who have registered to receive occasional information about
the Share Market. This is a monthly email with some pointers and tips
on focused topics - see a quick intro to the eNews emails. They often include references to specific eBook Articles in my Share Market Toolbox, as well as key web pages in the free area of the Toolbox (eg. on the extensive Share Market web page).
I have been writing the eBook Articles since October 2008 - that's
more than six years, and these eNews emails help you to navigate to
related and useful information each month.

Remember...
Price charts summarise the underlying opinions
and emotions of the market participants.
Every chart tells a story. It pays to understand the stories in the price charts.

This month's focus:
Nimble Short Term Investing - more details
Earlier this year I wrote a new eBook Article on the topic of Nimble Short Term Investing (NSTI),
and for this month's update I have added another four new eBook (PDF)
Articles, and applied some updates to two others as follows:
- eBook Article ST-7100, "Nimble Short Term Investing" - This was the new free 4-page article in March, and is very similar to the updated web page; but includes some extra snippets of detail.
- eBook Article ST-7200, "NSTI - Investing objectives"
- This new 4-page article explains the investing objectives that are
relevant to this approach, and touches on the topics of: dividends (can
be a distraction), striving for capital improvement, timing the market
(this is possible), and capital protection. Toolbox non-members can see
the free page 1 here.
- eBook Article ST-7400, "NSTI - Underlying principles"
- This new 6-page article explains the underlying 10 principles that
help to underpin this investing approach (see a list of them on page 1
of the article). Toolbox non-members can see the free page 1 here.
- eBook Article ST-7500, "NSTI - Emotions, psychology"
- This free, simple one page article simply introduces the topic of
emotions and psychology that are relevant to investors and traders, and
points the reader to other existing articles that more fully explain
this aspect.
-
eBook Article ST-7900, "NSTI - Money and risk management" -
This free, simple one page article simply introduces the topic of money
management and risk management, and points the reader to five other
existing articles that more fully explain this topic.
-
eBook Article ST-2120, "Psychology and emotions"
- This existing 5 page article has been tweaked and refreshed with a
little more detail so that it better supports the new material on Nimble
Short Term Investing. Toolbox non-members can see the free page 1 here.
-
eBook Article TA-2000, "Technical Analysis - introduction"
- This existing, and free, five page article which introduces Technical
Analysis has been updated with a better introduction section on page 1
to better explain why it is that price charts summarise the underlying
opinions and emotions of the market participants. When I first wrote
this article in 2010, I wasn't using this particular set of words to
summarise the usefulness of technical analysis.
Also, in case you missed it in the March eNews Update email, I announced two new eBook Articles that are related to this topic:-
- eBook Article ST-6202, "Portfolio construction" -
This brand new 4-page article provides some thoughts on the topic of
portfolio construction. It includes some thoughts on why there are many
differing views about how to construct a share portfolio, and touches on
the topics of: asset allocation, sectors, diversification, risk
tolerance and portfolio rebalancing. Toolbox non-members can see the free page 1 here.
- eBook Article ST-6220, "Percent of portfolio - How much to invest?" -
This brand new three-page article considers the question: "I want to
invest in a portfolio of shares, but how much of my investment capital
should I commit to any one share parcel?", and discusses some key
considerations including: the issues regarding parcel size; 5 companies
or 10? and how much money do we really need? Toolbox non-members can see
the free page 1 here.
Regarding
my growing collection of eBook (PDF) Articles, don't forget to see the
latest Table of Contents pages for these articles (see links in the
side-bar above right). You can also see the Table of Contents for all eBook Articles (recently new or updated ones are highlighted), and the Master Toolbox Index which includes the eBook Articles, plus web page references, and helpful videos.

eBook (PDF) Articles - Summary
Since October 2008 I have accumulated quite a collection of eBook (PDF) Articles
on three subject areas - Share Trading/Investing, Technical Analysis
and BullCharts software. There are now 699 pages of material in 154
eBook articles. These Articles are invaluable for both new and
experienced investors and traders. I write brief monthly notes in this
eNews email to highlight specific Articles on targeted topics, and
sometimes referring to new or updated web pages in the Toolbox (also see
a history of Toolbox updates). I am also writing new Articles and updating existing ones as required. For more information please see:
|
Article front pages
For any new readers of my Toolbox eBook Articles, there are some useful introductory Articles including an Introduction and an Overview Article for each of the three subject areas. You can see them here:

Any problems?
What if you have some
sort of problem with accessing the Toolbox and any of these Articles? Or
maybe the Username and Password doesn't work. If there is any problem
at all, simply contact me by email or phone. The best email address for
this is: support@robertbrain.com.
Occasionally emails disappear - the system thinks they are spam, or the
ISP might think they are spam. If I don't reply within a day or so,
please contact me by either email address or phone.

In Closing
There
is nothing secret in this email, so feel free to forward it to someone
if you think they might benefit from the information, or from being a
Toolbox Member. The easiest way to do this is to use the "Forward Email"
link at the bottom.
I
am also confident that my Toolbox Members won't be sharing their
username and password with non-members. It is not fair that I spend all
this time preparing the materials, and then my Toolbox Members pay money
to have legitimate access, only to let some people pay nothing to read
and view the details.
Please
feel free to email an individual Article to others as a sample; but if
they want online access to all the materials, it is pretty cheap, so
they should subscribe as a Toolbox Member. There is information about Toolbox Membership in the Quick Links section at right.
Always happy to receive feedback, or suggestions for new content or improvements.
Until next month, happy investing or trading,
Robert B. Brain (mobile: 0438 355 910)
ps: watch out for the sharks in the ocean!
